Eeeeek! Exciting news! I've FINALLY taken the time to re-brand myself and the logo is now up :) More branding throughout the blog and website to follow. I don't know about you, but as a designer, I constantly feel overwhelmed by all the design inspiration out there. One day I feel like I want my brand to be modern and then the next I'll see a really inspiring retro logo. Umph! Can't we just have this idea pop into our heads and yell at us "I'M THE ONE!" ? So with the seemingly endless amount of inspiration out there, I've finally created what I feel really represents me and my style. I'm a beachy gal. Literally. If I could spend every waking moment there I would. Therefore, my logo is a little modern with a lot of beach thrown in. I love it! I've never been fully satisfied with any branding I've done for myself. This time, I actually got some outside feedback and it did a world of good! Never underestimate the power of a good critique, even if it's mostly bad. Every piece of advice builds you up and makes you a better more aware designer whether you realize it or not. Even if all you have is a close friend or co-worker, another pair of eyes on something you've been looking at for hours is a life-saver.</div>

I've been you-tubing a lot these days and I've managed to stumble upon a lot of great and inspiring artists on there. One of which is <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/DanielaSings?feature=watch" target="_blank">Daniela Andrade</a>. She has a beautiful tone and some pretty kick-ass covers. I'm digging <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDjlaN-X8-0" target="_blank">this one</a> at the moment. A lot of different music catches my eye, but my design music taste has definitely taken a turn for the chill lately and this fits the bill perfectly. Enjoy!</div>

In the spirit of getting my butt off the couch and actually sticking to a workout regimen, there's nothing more motivating than great workout gear ( or that occasional glimpse of yourself walking by a reflective surface). So here's a few things that made my wish list. In case you can't tell already...I have a bit of an obsession with mint, teal and the like - but whatever, these are SO awesome. Links are below of course, so check out some of this stuff. Honestly, if you're looking for unique workout stuff or just unique stuff in general, I find Wanelo to be a more than fab resource. So get shopping + join me in the "get my butt off the couch" movement. </div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOvDDoWXsJv_fxV6SkL0-sG2VJl3lhbzJkveROQrBWNZkAKFkQwkVgHiAi6EiIOdaNDGsr7OXPF5vRKoS5_U6oO2eZPNnvts5DW9RFZKqDfs1Z2hyhcQ9h9K_Uikk274eLzD2UaGbyzAM8/s1600/desk+space.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: em; margin-right: em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOvDDoWXsJv_fxV6SkL0-sG2VJl3lhbzJkveROQrBWNZkAKFkQwkVgHiAi6EiIOdaNDGsr7OXPF5vRKoS5_U6oO2eZPNnvts5DW9RFZKqDfs1Z2hyhcQ9h9K_Uikk274eLzD2UaGbyzAM8/s640/desk+space.jpg" width="600" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I don't know about any of you, but time management is a bit of a pitfall for me at times. I recently started freelancing for an actual company on top of having a full time job + looking to do more freelancing for another company. Needless to say, my life has felt a little bit more than hectic recently. Finding time to just chill has been more difficult and turning off my brain for a second or two has proven even harder. So enough about my problems. How do I solve them? Well, I'm no pro to be sure, but these are a few tips + tricks I have for time management. Even if you're just a student, these can be helpful as well. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
1. <a href="https://teuxdeux.com/" target="_blank"><b>Teux Deux</b></a>: This is a great way to visually see your days and set "to-do" lists. I need to explore this more but the graphic designer in me loves this.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
2. <b>Google Calendar</b>: I've found that this is really convienient not only because you can color code the crap out of your stuff, but also because (if you use gmail) your email + schedule is all in one spot. Easy!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
3. <b>Writing Lists</b>: Now, I've been doing this my whole life and this seems to actually get me off my butt and doing the things I need to do. Physically writing something down triggers something in my brain to remember it more or maybe just feel like it's real + important as opposed to being lost in digital land.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
These are just a few, but they get the ball rolling for me. Trial + error really is the best way to find what your time management style is whether your a full-timer, freelancer, or student. Life seems to be chaotic at the worst times and more often than not, I'm day-dreaming about the beach. So see what works for your style and build on that! Happy Tuesday!</div>

Apologies for my absence! The past couple weeks have been pretty insane. I've gone on vacation, landed a freelancing job and been constantly tinkering with updating my portfolio + creating new projects. In regards to my time out of the city, I went to a beautiful little cabin in the mountains near Gatlinburg, TN. When I say that I was atop the mountain...I literally was ATOP THE MOUNTAIN. Our cabin was so high, I may have cried a little when lugging our van up to the top the first time...just a little... But the scare was SO worth it. I got great pictures ( like the one above) as well as some much needed computer free time and Galaga playing time. I have to be honest, I completely nerded out and managed to get four of the five high scores on the console in our cabin... (secretly I'm super stoked!) Anyways, besides great pictures, there was much (maybe too much) great food + fabulous company!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Overall, it was a fantastic trip. I feel really relaxed and ready to rev up the blog again. I've been really struggling with a solid topic to focus on since I'm really into a lot of different stuff. Originally, I wanted this blog to be a way for me to get my design inspiration, work, and opinions out there to not only be expressive but also as a way to network. I've found that I'm interested in telling you guys about a lot more than just my opinions on design. I'm thinking (as you can see from a few previous posts) that this blog is going to included a lot of health and fitness stuff as I get back on the workout train + a little bit of fashion and of course just random articles etc. that strike me. I look forward to getting all this up and out here for you to see, so stay tuned for a more steady flow of posts!</div>

Today's post is purely my own desperate need for a change of scenery. Looking out my window today, I should be seeing sunshine and somewhat warmer weather, but here in Cincinnati, we seem to be stuck in a perpetual winter. So to boost my spirits and get a little more optimistic about the weather, here's a warm weather picture just for that. And might I add, this is in <a href="http://www.kewarra.com/photo-gallery">Australia</a> (#1 on my bucket list).</div>

<div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 3px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In conjunction with trying to get in better shape, I'm being more conscious of the things I'm putting in my body. I used to be a big pop drinker until I found out all the crazy bad stuff that's in it. The most easy change for me has been to keep a solid supply of tea around + a little sugar here and there. Honestly, you can find some pretty delish little teas out there. My favorites are peppermint, lemon, and chamomile. </div>
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 3px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
They not only have a ton of health benefits, but they're also pretty affordable. I think of it as a smarter way to spend my money because as compared to getting ZERO benefits from pop and sugary drinks, tea is on your side + helps you out.</div>
</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 3px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-align: justify;">
Just to prove my point...</div>
<div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 3px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-align: justify;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here's what <a href="http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/tea-types-and-their-health-benefits">WebMD</a> had to say about the potential health benefits of tea:</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Being as it's already March, a lot of us made resolutions to kick off the new year. Now, admittedly, I'm not as hardcore about sticking to mine as I'd like to be. So in preparation for upcoming vacations + a general need to get in better shape, I'll be trying to post at least once a week on new workouts I'm trying, recipes that I find that are delicious + healthy and the progress I'm making. I'd love to hear what things you guys doing to keep your resolution going strong too. Also, if you have any yummy + healthy recipes, shoot them my way! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Here's a workout that's been pretty easy for me to get in the habit of doing. If you're not familiar with Jenna Marbles...Get on it! You won't regret it. She's a youtuber with hilarious videos posted every Wednesday. She came out with this workout to do before getting in the shower and let me tell you, it kicks butt!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
50 jumping jacks</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
5 push-ups</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
20 crunches</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
20 mountain climbers</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
30 second plank</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is totally worth it, takes no time at all + the best part is, you jump right in the shower afterwards. Love it!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Even though spring is only a few weeks away, winter is definately not giving up that easy, hence today is a snow day. So, since I'm snowed in for the remainder of the day and just looking outside is giving me the shivers, here's a look that makes me feel a little more empowered to trek out into the snow. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I adore infinity scarves and, just my luck, these are super warm and comfy! Plus grey goes with literally anything. A little pattern and studs never hurt, so why not put them on your kicks. These shoes are great, maybe not so much if you plan on going sledding, but nonetheless I'd love to have these! Lastly, I don't know about you, but my hands are ALWAYS the first things to freeze and I can never handle wearing full gloves. These are the perfect combo. They're gloves + mittens when you want them to be. The best of both worlds if I do say so myself. This whole look can be found at the great + wonderful Topshop (links below). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

*By the way, these gloves are on clearance for $2.00!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
It's once again the beginning of the week. Dreaded by most, but I'm kinda cool with starting up a new week. Granted, a three day weekend is something I'll never turn down, but it's nice to start fresh. So in the spirit of freshness and beginning on a creative note, I've grabbed some inspiration from <a href="http://dribbble.com/">Dribble</a>. Dribble is a great community of designers + artists that allows you to post "shots" or screen grabs of what you're currently working on and get feedback. You have to be invited to be able to post, but in the meantime it's a great website to bucket up some of the things people are doing on there that inspire you and your work style. This week, I focused on a little info design and some illustrations. I don't know what it is, but the more sketchy / block color illustration style is really catching my eye lately. So simple, yet super expressive. What kind of inspiration are you guys drawn to this week?</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Happy Friday everyone! Today seems like a good day to just take a breather and do some online window shopping. My favorite place to get inspiration for new looks and accessories is the one and only, Etsy. It carries tons of unique finds from artists all over the world. No matter what your taste, you're sure to find something amazing here. Lately, I've been drawn to a lot of geometric and color block styles. Simple and modern, they're full of pops of color (which I adore) and unexpected details. Bows have also popped up waaayyy more than once on my Pinterest boards. I'm starting to feel like I have a problem... Nonetheless, all of these things seem to play very nicely together when put into one look. The main thing is, don't be afraid to mix and match! This means mixing patterns, textures, colors, anything. Experiment. That's what makes your look, well, you. If you feel good in it, it'll show.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Over time, I've tried out my fair share of sites to host my work and spread the word about me and what I do. To be honest, there's a lot out there that's either really worthwhile or totally unnecessary. I'm going to give you a list of the interfaces that I've tried out and which ones I like or could do without.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b>FOR PORTFOLIOS:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b><a href="http://www.squarespace.com/">Squarespace</a></b> is a very sleek and intuitive interface design. I highly recommend this for those of you that don't have a lot of coding knowledge. They have templates for various different needs and portfolio types. They're yearly hosting fee is a bit more pricey, but for all that they offer you, it's hard to beat. Not to mention they have easy blog integration.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b><a href="http://cargocollective.com/">Cargo Collective</a></b> is the portfolio site that I currently use. It's easy to plug in your projects and have a very profession and affordable site. This is a site I would recommend for anyone from beginner to advanced, since it lets you plug and play or write your own code.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b>FOR BLOGS:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b><a href="http://www.tumblr.com/">Tumblr</a></b> was my first blogging platform. It's extremely easy to get setup and start blogging right away with free themes galore. My only dislike about this platform is it's lack of implementing an easy commenting system. You have to go through a third party site. Also, there really isn't too easy of a way to have ads or monetize very well. Overall, tumblr is great for those just getting started and wanting to get their ideas out there, but if you actually want to run a business or the like, then look elsewhere.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b><a href="http://wordpress.org/">Wordpress</a></b> is the platform that I heard of most when I started researching blogging. Admitedly, I tried this platform and found it a bit confusing. Now, that's not to say it's not great, because a lot of people blog very successfully on this. I'm just not one of them. If you can fiddle around with it, you can make a pretty amazing blog.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b><a href="http://www.blogger.com/">Blogger</a></b> is my platform of choice, though. Run by google, it has great monetization opportunities and is super easy to get started (I built my blog how I wanted it in less than a day). It also has a comment system and built in stats tracker to see who your audience is. Overall, I feel like this is the easiest platform for all levels of blogging and also gives you a chance to write your own code if desired.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Today I'm feeling really inspired by all the great patterns out there. The color palettes and shape combos are killer + a little bit retro. Personally, I'm drawn to high contrast and simple shapes. These patterns have a lot of bang for your buck or in other words they have a big impact without a lot of clutter. Design with economy.</div>
<br />
Feel free to share links to patterns that inspire you!<br />

I'm not a hard-core bicycler or anything of the sort, but I do enjoy the occasional leisurely ride through the park and these bikes are on the top of my wish list. Pseudo-vintage custom bikes from urban outfitters are just too great to pass up (well, maybe after a lot of saving). You can choose from lots of different colors and various bike styles to fit your own personal groove. Despite the dreary, icy wintery days we're still having here in the
Midwest, I've got my mind on spring. I'm a warm weather gal and can't
wait to finally venture back outside. So in the spirit of spring, I'm
getting warm weather clothes with this pretty little hue, mint! Although
I'm a bit obsessed with this color all year round (hence my mint
leather jacket), I'm excited to get good use out of it in the spring
weeks to come. I especially love it paired with black and white (like
the outfit above). You really can't go wrong with black, white and a pop
of color. So get out there and get your spring wardrobe ready! (I know I
am)<br/><br/>

I'm always looking for great black and white photography everywhere I go, and today I stumbled upon Danish photographer, <b><a href="http://www.behance.net/gretatu">Greta Tuckute</a></b>. She has STUNNING portraits and really emotional shots all around. She's definitely not afraid of the close-up (which turns out some amazing stuff). These photos capture beauty and edgy emotion all wrapped up into an inspiring portfolio. Maybe I'll even dust off my Rebel and bust out some black and whites!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16472205560038844393noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2496770491735428330.post-60944730438435133332013-02-23T18:18:00.001-08:002013-02-23T20:50:28.443-08:00Goodie Bag: Don't Fear the Internet<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I don't know about you guys, but being a print-based designer
definitely cause a bit of a hiccup for me when it comes to the web.
Honestly, wrapping my mind around all the jumbled letters and phrases
the compile the ever-complicated "code" of a website is overwhelming to
say the least. So, I've found a solution!...or at least a very helpful
and comical introduction to take the edge off.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://http//www.dontfeartheinternet.com/"><b>Don't Fear The Internet</b> </a>is a collaboration of Jessica Hische and Russ Meschmeyer. It is made of short videos giving you the down and dirty details to be able to get your footing in the realm of all things web.<br />
<br />
Have fun and enjoy! I'm almost through all of them and really do feel a bit less terrified
of web design and all it entails. As I find more resources on conquering
the web design wave, I'll post them for your viewing pleasure.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16472205560038844393noreply@blogger.com0
